The Chair-ity Event to Benefit The Children's Village at Christian City

I painted a chair again this year for the Chair-ity Event benefitting The Children's Village at Christian City. Local artists donate their talents to help this fantastic cause annually.

I'm in charge of collecting artists, something that is loads of fun as I get to meet many, many fantastic artists.

There are some wonderful chairs this year! Around 25 artists have painted chairs or chair-themed art to help the kids.

Thanks to the generosity of MC Events and the Hollingsworth House who donate the location and the food, every single penny raised goes directly to help the children (www.ChristianCity.org for more info)

My chair was a home-made wooden child's desk donated by The Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Store in Peachtree City, GA. I was going to make a piece of pottery to go on the two "shelves" and leave it rustic, but the Christmas spirit took control as you can see!

I bought the Christmas tree, cup and plate at the Clothes Less Traveled, too. Since the chair had a heart cut-out on the stand, I decided to go with a heart theme... I painted the little heart decorations on the tree and added all the other heart doo-dads and the letters. I painted the chair with those small acrylic paints you pick up at almost any craft store, then embellished with the raised fabric paints. A few coats of spray non-yellowing lacquer protects it.

I made a slide show of some of the chairs to put on the main chair-ity event website if you'd like to see some of the chairs by others. We still have more coming, I'll try to add them as we get them. There's also a slide show from last years' event on the site, too.

If you'd like to find out more, please visit www.chair-ity-event.org. I hope you'll join us at the event this year! If you're an artist in the metro Atlanta area and would like to help next year, please give me a call (404-290-3638, message says Georgia Front Page) or send an email.
